I bought these birch logs last year after the Christmas season. I wasn’t expecting to find them on clearance along with the other holiday decor, but lucky for me they were, and they cost a dollar each! (Do you know how many birch slices you could buy at Michael’s or JoAnn’s for that price? Maybe half of a slice, if you have a coupon.)
I love the feathery look of the bark on birch logs, so much so that I covered a fireplace screen I made with them last year.
It goes without saying that I bought all six logs that were left, and stored them in my basement. Yes, you’ll see a few other decorations with birch logs this year.
For this centerpiece, all I did was set my table saw blade to the highest setting, and cut a straight line halfway through the log, turned it over, and cut the other side of the log.
I used a 1 1/2″ spade bit to drill holes in the logs, which is the exact size of a small tealight candle. Or, I might also fill each hole with a little bit of clay and set tapered candles in each hole as well.
Another cheap and super easy decor item to add to the list, and this one can stay out all the way through the winter!
