Does anyone else have that awkward area under a pedestal sink? What about the exposed pipe look? When we removed our old bathroom vanity and put in this one, we just retrofitted it into the old plumbing set up, which left us with a copper pipe running next to the sink.
It’s truly not that big of a deal to me, but it was also empty space that could easily be utilized in a functional way. I’ve eyed some of those wooden or metal tiered bathroom organizers, but with price tags between $40 and $100+, they were just not in my budget.
I waited awhile until I found the perfect baskets that would fit neatly in this space, but still hold stuff. You’ll find very little in my home that is purely decorative; everything serves a purpose. This bathroom organizer would be no exception.
So, these two baskets that I found at Goodwill for $1.99 each and a little dowel rod are now my very own tiered bathroom organizer, holding anything a guest might need during their stay at our cottage.
I dry brushed gray onto each basket and the dowel rod, and then did a white wash over it. (Has anyone else ever used a muffin tin for whitewashing? This was my first time, but I loved all the space it gave me to make different ratios of water to paint!)
It was simple to put together. I started by drilling pilot holes into each end of the dowel rod. This just allows the screw to go in straight (well, assuming your pilot hole is straight) and helps the wood not to split. I took a washer, threaded it on the screw, and then screwed it through the basket and into the pilot hole in the dowel rod.
That’s it. Super easy and super cheap.
Now, we have a place stashed with anything someone might need – extra toothbrushes, razors, face wipes, soap and shampoo. (Yes, I always take the bottles they give you at hotels, for this very reason.)
The bottom basket holds towels and washcloths.
$4 for a tiered DIY bathroom storage organizer AND an exposed pipe cover.

Genius! Thank you for this post this morning. I’ve been looking at cute ways to jazz up my bathroom (I just recently moved) and this is perfect!

Perfect timing! I love it when that happens. 🙂
What a super cute and easy idea! Well done! This is a perfect candidate for my Five Star Frugal linkup at A Tray of Bliss. Would you share it with us? Love, Mimi xxx

So cute and creative. I have no space for this but I will keep it in mine for the next house.
Stylish organization is one of my very favorite things – so this is just perfect! Great job!! I featured your stacked baskets at The Creative Circle this week!
Thanks for the feature! I love a functional project!
That is a cute idea. I love to find things at Goodwill and repurp them, give them a second shot. Great inspiration.
Thanks, Deedra! I had been searching for awhile for the right size, and thankfully stumbled across both of these on the same trip! Sometimes it’s total luck what you’ll find on a trip to Goodwill.
