DIY Halloween Candles (Dollar Tree Halloween Decorations)
Ideas for making two different Halloween DIY candles using everything you can find at Dollar Tree!
Both of these DIY Halloween candles can be made entirely with supplies from the dollar store (Dollar Tree, to be exact). I made these candles for less than $5 each. Plus, if you reuse old candles from your home for the wax, they will be even cheaper to make – around $2.50 each!
I also love making upcycled holiday decorations. These DIY Halloween spider web decorations were made from picture frames!
For each of these candles, you’ll start with a bowl from the dollar store. I chose black because it looked the best for Halloween, but any color will work.
Eyeball Soup Halloween DIY Candles
Supplies from Dollar Tree to Make Halloween Candles
- Styrofoam vase filler balls (I couldn’t find just white, so I bought the ones that were white and silver and just used the white ones.)
- black ceramic bowl
- old candles to melt down or pillar candles from dollar store (white and red)
- candle wicks (or use the old ones from melted candles)
- permanent marker
Steps to Make Eyeball Soup Candle
First, use permanent markers or paint pens to draw eyeballs on the styrofoam balls. While working on this, you can melt down the candles in a double boiler. Or, if your candle is in a glass jar, you can put in right in the simmering water. (I reserve an old pot for candle making so if any candle residue gets on my pot, I haven’t ruined one of my cooking pots.)
While the wax is melting, use a little hot wax to put on the bottom of the wick and then place the wick into the ceramic bowl. Tape the top ends of the wick to a chopstick or fork so the wicks don’t fall into the hot wax.
After pouring in the white wax, let it sit to cool until it starts to firm up a bit. Then, once the top has a cooled film on top, add in melted red wax. After this, add the styrofoam eyeballs to the “soup”.
After it’s completely cooled, it’s ready to be displayed or used!
Skeleton Bath Halloween DIY Candles
This next one is just as fun as the first, and is even easier than the eyeball soup candle! For this skeleton bath candle, you’ll need a ceramic bowl and plastic skeleton from the dollar store.
Supplies From Dollar Tree to Make Halloween Candles
- ceramic bowl
- plastic skeleton
- old candles to melt down or pillar candles from dollar store (white and red)
- candle wicks (or use the old ones from melted candles)
- hot glue and hot glue gun
Steps to Make Skeleton Bath Candles
Basically, the steps to make this candle are just the same as the first. You’ll melt down some old candle wax. While that is melting, add wicks to the bottom of the ceramic bowl with a bit of hot wax or hot glue. Then, remove the bottom part of the skeleton and hot glue the skeleton (rib cage and up) onto the sides of the bowl. Glue the legs to the other side of the bowl as if the skeleton’s feet were sticking up.
Then, pour hot wax into the bowl and let set until cooled. Adding a fun towel wrap hat to the skeleton completes the look!
