It’s always fun to look back at the year to see which posts were the most (and least) viewed. Often, I’ll be working on a project and think to myself, “Oh, this one is going to be awesome” and then no one seems to agree with me in this world wide web world. Then again, sometimes there’s a project that just takes off, even though it was one that I didn’t even know if I should write about it in a post (take my #1 post for this year, for example)! Here are the top five most viewed posts from 2016, and five posts that I loved, but the pageviews totals don’t show quite as much love.
Top 5 Favorite Posts of 2016
The #5 top project from this year is one I actually I put off completing for over a year, basically because I didn’t know the best way to execute my idea. I finally figured out how to make large signs without any fancy tools – a printer is all you need!
#4 is a project from my Rustic Industrial Bathroom remodel. I was able to keep costs low (under $300 for the entire bathroom!) by updating fixtures already in the room. By adding concrete and this cool marble finish to our counter, I updated the vanity for less than $50.
Yep, #3 is another post from my bathroom update. I used plywood paneling and a whitewash technique to create this shiplap plank wall on the cheap!
I love that this #2 post took off on Pinterest, because I feel as if the information is truly beneficial for readers. Plus, it’s a completely unbiased review of the different kinds of paint. No one paid me to say anything in this post!
Finally, my top post from 2016 is another project from my bathroom, and it was such an easy one! Thanks to Pinterest, these old salsa and applesauce jars turned bathroom storage jars are famous. Okay, they’re not really that popular, but if you saw any of my posts from 2016 on Pinterest, you probably saw this one.
Now, for the fun part! Which posts were huge flops, at least according to page views, in 2016? It’s always somewhat of a game of chance to see what posts will take off, and some of my favorite projects were probably never seen by many of you, because they never gained much traction on social media. Hopefully a few of these projects are new to you and give you some inspiration for a future project of your own!
Top 5 Flops of 2016
I built this loft bed for my daughters’ shared bedroom, but the tutorial post is not very popular. I think it’s partially due to the fact that it’s not finished (how is she going to get up into that bed?) and I never really shared it because of this fact. The ladder is finished and I’m working on a safety rail, so I’ll be updating and sharing this post soon!
I love the way this antique dresser turned out, especially the refinished natural wood top. Thankfully someone loved it enough to buy it, so I guess even if it didn’t do well on my blog, I can still call it a success.
I took an old cabinet that I found in my grandpa’s garage and created a base for our new beverage and snack area at our cottage. I still plan to add some open shelving above the bar area, so hopefully once the entire space is complete it will look more complete.
I mixed and matched fabric and paint color to make these coordinating dining chairs.
Finally, I made this heart from reclaimed barn wood as an easy DIY Valentine’s decoration. Maybe this Valentine’s Day will be more popular for it than last?

Your bathroom is gorgeous, Jenny! Love that heart for V-day as well. Happy New Year to you and thank you for organizing this hop – such fun!
I love that beverage and snack counter you made for your cottage! It is so unique! Also, I always see your post about the paint reviews on pinterest! I have definitely referenced it before! Nice!
I totally understand about thinking a project will do well on social media but it basically gets ignored. Leaves me scratching my head sometimes, especially if a lot of time and elbow grease went into it. I love your “flop” projects, especially the mismatched dining set and the paint finish on the beverage station. Look forward to seeing more of your ideas this coming year!
Love this! I like how you kept it real! Usually its the post I would never dream of that seem to take off. Crazy isn’t it??!! Thanks for sharing at Dishing It & Digging It! Looking forward to seeing more of your creativity!
Your “flops” don’t look like flops. Some really great projects here.
