DIY Halloween Spider Web Decorations

Reuse old picture frames to make these easy spider web decorations for Halloween. This DIY project is inexpensive but brings a touch of Halloween to your home without going over the top.

I love decorating for different seasons, but I don’t usually love the look or the price of a lot of fabricated Halloween decorations. I set out to make my own little Halloween spider web decorations using stuff I already had laying around the house. The only thing I needed to buy were little fake spiders from Dollar Tree!

Supplies to Make Halloween Spider Web Decorations

  • old picture frame
  • black yarn (I’m in the process of trying to figure out the name of the yarn I used for my web because I feel like it gives the perfect look. But, when you buy it from the thrift store without a tag, it requires extra digging.)
  • fake spider
  • hot glue

Steps to Make a Spider Web from a Frame

Start by removing anything from the frame, including the glass, metal prongs, or backing. I created two different spider web designs. Here’s a quick guide on how to make each of these designs.

Side Angled Web Design

Cut the yarn into equal sized pieces long enough to span across the frame diagonally (you can trim them down later). Tie the bottom of the strings together into a knot. Hot glue this knot onto the bottom corner of the frame. Then, hot glue each strand spanning across the frame and spaced apart from each other.

To make the cross web design, hot glue different pieces of yarn to the opposite two sides, spacing those pieces apart as well. Take each cross string and tie it to each of the strings already in place on the frame. Repeat this process for each of the cross strings. This will create the webbed look.

Center Circular Web Design

For this design, I spaced the strings apart from each other and then made them cross near the middle. Then, I started near the middle cross and tied one new string all the way around.

I hot glued the spider onto the web and that’s it!

It’s a super easy and super cheap project that saves us from buying new AND reuses something that otherwise might have been thrown away. That’s a quadruple win in my book!
